alt image text
The FIFA Museum had the honour of receiving the Namibian women’s national team and a delegation headed by Namibia Football Association President Robert Shimooshili for a very special visit last week.
The action kicked off with a team photo and a donation ceremony at The Rainbow, the museum’s dazzling display of national-team shirts from across the world arranged by colour. Shimooshili presented the museum with the latest Namibia away jersey, featuring a striking blue design.
Next up, the visitors split into two groups for an exclusive guided tour. They explored the museum’s wide array of objects relating to the history of the beautiful game, including being among the first special guests to enjoy the newly expanded space dedicated to the FIFA Women’s World Cup™, which opened at the beginning of the month.

The highlights included getting up close to the FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy, which the Namibian players – like their counterparts worldwide – dream of lifting one day. They likewise admired the FIFA World Cup Trophy and the Wall of Champions, which lists the names of the lucky few who have won football’s ultimate prizes.
There was also time to check out the museum’s current special exhibition, “The Making of a Footballer: Photographs of Youthful Dreams”, which charts footballers’ development from budding youngsters to fully fledged stars and features contributions from Aitana Bonmatí, Harry Kane and Alex Morgan, to name but a few.
Unsurprisingly, the pictures of a young Pelé were among the biggest hits.
The visit came as part of an expedition to Zurich in between a highly successful double-header of friendlies against Liechtenstein. Following a 1-1 draw on the day prior to their FIFA Museum outing, the Brave Gladiators were in buoyant form in the return match on Sunday, 14 July, beating their hosts 2-0.
